am able to print from both laptops without my desktop being on and, possibly, turning the printer on thru laptops. The laptops will connect via their wireless cards to the router via its wireless antenna, then the router is connected to the print server via the Ethernet cable. of these small USB print servers dont work well with MFPs.

click on START>RUN>CMD put cmd in the box > OK > type out IPCONFIG ALL and hit the enter key. It will have usb port, Lan Port RJ45 and power cord or plug. Desktop and 1st laptop is on Vista If the print server via the Ethernet cable that connects to the Router also via Ethernet cable…so that is all good. however, want to change this to be able to print from both laptops without my desktop being on and, possibly, turning the printer on thru laptops.

lot of servers come with software that will sniff out the server on your network, and allow you to set it up with the software. There will be an install disk that youll likely need to install on the desktop and the laptops it will create new printer port so that the print spooler in windows will know where to send the print job to. You will need to set hard IP for the print server so that it wont change, casue if it did then your computers would be sending the print jobs to the wrong ip address.
