Pavel Roskinmaintains the SymbolCF version of the Orinoco driver. Lots of info about Linux, all the docs and Howto how toset up networking on you Linux box and tons of links. SimonAnderson has Linux Wireless Access Point HOWTO, whichinclude lots of good information on various AP topics HostAP, DHCP,DNS, routing, firewalling, NoCat….

Theyhave set up central linuxWirelessmailing list that only some drivers use. AndreaMerello is maintaining the old driver for the various cards based on the ATHEROS802. 11a chipset, and had preliminary source code available notyet functional. James Ketrenos andmany people are working on the Intel ieee80211 stack. NYCwireless wants FreePublic Wireless Internet for New York City. Jouni Malinen hasdeveloped the ieee80211 devicescape stack, which is derivedfrom the HostAP driver.

MarkS. Tarmo Jrvalt has long listsof cards containing various chipsets, one page per chipset, including some Google Ads. Ben Gross has morelinks about Wireless mostly Linux related, and quite up todate. This stack iscurrently in the Linux kernel 2. 6. 14, is used by variousIntel Centrino drivers and is doing lots orwork on implementing layer for Linux. Manuel Estrada Sainzwas maintaining the OrinocoUSB version of the Orinoco driver. David Leonard was working on public domain Proxim RangeLan2 Pcmciadriver for OpenBSD and needs help. The Linux Wirelesswiki has some limited hardware surveys. NicolaiLangfeldt has short list of 802. 11g cards comaptible withLinux.

YunusBookwala explain how to use the Proxim card tocreate point to point links. Linux users in Australia areusing the good old Wavelan or the Wavelan IEEE to createpoint to point data link between distant houses. Tim Higgins has ahuge amount of information on his web site FAQ,articles, reviews, links, which is acurate, detailed and up to date thats quite feat.

The State University of Ohio has basic Overviewof 802. 11. Many mailing lists. Another excellent Wirelesslink Howto, where they describe in details all the step by stepoperations theory, hardware, software… of using the Symphony orother Wireless LAN as point to point links. Werner, alongside the LinuxMobileGuide, keeps long list of cards, but theinformation on this page is not always correct, so double check. Advanced, exhaustive, accurate and up to date. Daniel Drake andothers are maintaining the ZyDAS ZD1211 OpenSource drivers, and they have mailing list aboutit. John MarkusBjrndalen was the maintainer the Symbol drivers, and hehad some discussionforums about it.
Tarmo Jrvalt has long listsof cards containing various chipsets, one page per chipset, including some Google Ads. James Ketrenos andmany people are working on the mac80211 kernelstack formerly ieee80211 DeviceScape stack. Jacco Tunnissen has lotsof links about Wardriving and Wireless Security. Pavel Roskinmaintains the SymbolCF version of the Orinoco driver. They have mailinglist for the 39454965. Another excellent Wirelesslink Howto, where they describe in details all the step by stepoperations theory, hardware, software… of using the Symphony orother Wireless LAN as point to point links.

Jrg Albert ismaintaining the alternate driver for Atmel USB devicesoriginally written by Oliver Kurth. SeattleWireless has pretty long list of laptop specificpages. Definitely worth read, even if theydont mention Linux support PC MagazineZDnet has done short reviewof 802. 11b products. Personal Telco want tobuild alternative communication networks in the area ofPortland. Elektrosmog wantsfast Internet everywhere, starting in Sweeden. Like many others, itis based on the characteristic of theenvironment. very long time InfoTech was developing a802.

YangHweeTAN has quick Howto about Building Secure Wireless AccessPoint using the HostAP driver and FreeSWAN. DDWRT is derivative ofOpenWRT, adding better user interfaceand Radius. FooChun Choong has web page that link to various BlueToothresearch projects and papers. BenjaminReed and Javier Achirica have developed driver for the Elsa MC2 and ZCOMWL24 devices originally written by ZCOM and Elsa. HendrikJan Heins isnow maintaining an updated version of the exaustive list of wireless cards, and listcompatibility of PrismII cards with their own linuxwlandriver. AndreaMerello is maintaining the RealTek OpenSource drivers.

Ive found really good web page on thedifferent radio products available now quite outdated. Ben Gross has morelinks about Wireless mostly Linux related, and quite up todate. Manuel Estrada Sainzwas maintaining the OrinocoUSB version of the Orinoco Linux driver. Toms Networking hasfrequent detailed reviews of various wireless hardware. Also, there is an LRP AironetHowto. Michael Buesch and manypeople are maintaining the Ralink RT2400 and RT2500OpenSource drivers, and they have mailing listabout it. very long time InfoTech was developing a802.

Hehas mailinglist about it. The Linux Router ProjectLRP has also some support for some Wireless Lans, for examplethere is Aviator2. 4LRP image and some WavelanLRP images. Personal Telco want tobuild alternative communication networks in the area ofPortland. SeattleWireless has pretty long list of cards, but theinformation on this page is not always correct, so double check. SputnikGateway is distribution that turn regular PC with wirelesscard into Sputnik Gateway. Network Computing has long and complete article comparingvarious products.

Any applications and windows users leaves open will be up and running the next time they logon. Microsoft has been working hard on this ever since Windows shipped. MultipleUser Logon FeaturesThe single best functional improvement for home users is the extensive new support for multiple users sharing one PC. And you can switch users without having to reboot.

Virtually every Windows setting can be configured by user, instead of globally for all users. There are even usercustomizable icons that appear beside the names. XP supplies variety of graphics for use as user picture, and these can be changed readily through the User Accounts window lets administrators modify the name and password for each user, and also set the users account type. If you create an account named Guest, during installation, XP will automatically assign it the Limit set of capabilities.

With XP, home users have for the very first time except for handful of thirdparty products logon and file permissions system that actually keeps users out of each others files. The Change section of the User Accounts applet in Control Panel lets you set each users configuration. With WiFi, you can be outside on the patio on spring day using your notebook PC while wirelessly connecting to the Internet via DSL or cablemodem that might be located in your secondstory home office.

For such setting, Windows XP introduces broad set of improvements that permits each family member to fully customize everything from installed applications to the screen saver. In both the Home and Professional versions of XP, the logon screen has changed dramatically. Windows XP will be the first version of Windows with builtin support for the best wireless networking protocol, WiFi also known as 802. 11b. It appears that Microsoft got the multipleuserlogon features right.

Microsoft has been working hard on this ever since Windows shipped. MultipleUser Logon FeaturesThe single best functional improvement for home users is the extensive new support for multiple users sharing one PC. Any applications and windows users leaves open will be up and running the next time they logon. Even better, the tools that allow you to manage users are vastly improved. Virtually every Windows setting can be configured by user, instead of globally for all users.
